Taking Stock After Nearly Three Years of EvPhil

I've reached quite a milestone here on my website. With last week's capstone blog entry about the survival rankings of the 60 most important philosophers in history, I've finally finished introducing and examining all the pieces of my original Evolutionary Philosophy book that provided the backbone of this site and the core of my writing inspiration. From my first blog post about the Purpose of my work, to brief brush-ups on Evolution 101 and Philosophy 101, past essays on each of my 10 Tenets, through all the nooks and crannies of how to Know Thyself, and finally touring through the history of the Survival of the Fittest Philosophers—it's all been a long journey and one that has been incredibly valuable to me. The best evidence for that is how I started this trip as just another rambler on the internet spouting his amateur beliefs into the ether(net), but managed to finish it as a peer-reviewed published philosopher spouting his now semi-pro beliefs. That may not have been the best use of my actual degrees considering the pay I've received so far, but it's been an investment in myself, my knowledge of the world, and my understanding of how I can enjoy my time here that I don't think I'd have been able to live without making.

It's time now to make this investment pay off in other ways. After I spend a few weeks spreading the word about my philosophy paper, I'm going to get back to writing fiction. I've got the first draft done of an exciting new novel that I hope to finish editing by summer, and lots of short story ideas to polish off after that while I shop the novel for publication. I'll continue philosophising on these Friday blogs, but not again until March 6th after a short holiday to get some sun and celebrate my 13th wedding anniversary. In the meantime, check out the new additions I've added to the website that help summarise the milestones I've reached. There's stuff containing:
  • my journal article, in case you've missed it;
  • a map of the survival rankings of the fittest philosophers on my greatest hits page;
  • more news items in my Press Kit; and
  • FAQs for my Bridging the Is-Ought Divide paper, including questions about Nazis, Rape, other Evolutionary Ethicists, how to apply the principles, and many more. Be sure to send me your own question if you want it added to the list.

Thank you so much for all your support through this process. I know all this navel-gazing can appear self-centered at times and more than a little esoteric at others, so every little nod or mention that you are interested in what I'm writing has been a joy to receive. I'll be back with more soon!
