"[There has been] a change in the intellectual climate that makes it possible for anyone to become world travelers like these four people. The change is a maturation of evolutionary theory. Put another way, the same theory that unified the study of the rest of life during the 20th century (which continues) is now unifying the study of humanity as part of life."
I won't be posting a thought experiment this week because I'll soon be launching an update to my website and I want to reserve Friday's post for a message about the new content. In the meantime, though, check out this fantastic article in The Evolution Institute from David Sloan Wilson called: The One Culture: Four new books indicate that the barrier between science and the humanities is at last breaking down. It's a truly masterful collage that describes so well how four recent books reinforce the ongoing coming together of C.P. Snow's "two cultures" (the sciences and the humanities) into "one culture" that is supported by the study of evolution. There are so many great quotes in here that I want to note for my own research, but to put them all here would make this post nearly as long as the original article. Just read this one quote, and if it interests you, find the time to go through the lengthy article in its entirety.
